In line with fulfilling the Clean Up Ghana agenda, the National Sanitation Day (NSD) has been reintroduced by H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s government. The Wassa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly held its maiden NSD at Wassa Akropong, the municipal capital, on 6th June 2025. The national sanitation is a voluntary nationwide cleanup exercise held every first week of the month, in line with the government’s plan to improve environmental sanitation and cleanliness in the country.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the staff of WAEMA, together with the people of Wassa Akropong, came together for a fruitful exercise. The exercise started at 6:00 am and was intended to end at 10 am, but due to the intensity of the activity, it ended at around 4 pm on the same day. The cleanup targeted sweeping the principal streets and homes/workplaces, desilting of drains/culverts, evacuation of refuse, etc. Hon. Raymond Nana Ebah, staff of the assembly, some chiefs and elders, some party folks, and community members took their turns in bringing the activities to a successful end. The next cleanup is expected on 27th June 2025, and other surrounding communities are expected to do the same once on Friday every three weeks, on which day the Wassa Amenfi Traditional area celebrates a taboo day known by people as “Edeem”.
